Bread is the staple food across many cultures, and Mauritians are no different.
In fact, we find it hard to imagine a single day without our daily bread. So, the fact that we’re still able to find a crispy loaf during this period of confinement is thanks to all you dedicated bakers who are still busy working.
We know that during this difficult time, your job is harder, and your hours are even longer. So we want to express a BIG THANK YOU and show our support and appreciation by sharing some recipes with you that you can make with our premixes! Our bread mixes have more than one trick up their sleeve. You can, of course, follow the recipes to the letter to make delicious bread in a few minutes, but you can also adapt them to create different pastries, which are sure to surprise the taste buds! So without further ado…
The Salsa Bread
Looking for something a little more exotic? Then try our famous Salsa bread, which will please everyone, especially those who want to prepare a good meal quick! To make this amazing bread, all you need to do is mix 1 kg of Salsa bread premix, 0.500 kg of white flour, 0.010 kg of yeast and 500–550 ml of water. Shape dough pieces of the size you want and let them sit for ± 45 minutes. Cook at ± 250 °C with steam for about ± 14 minutes! And then, it’s ready to put on the shelves! You can add some extra flavour to it with some green or black olives, or even grated cheese.
Gluten-Free Raisin Buns
During confinement, children are perpetually on the hunt for new flavours! And, as there are more and more gluten-free lovers, why not offer a delicious raisin bread, which you can prepare in a few minutes! To make this mix you’ll need, 2/3 cup of skimmed milk powder, 2 tablespoons of sugar, ½ a tablespoon of salt, 2 large eggs, 2 tablespoons of melted butter or oil, 1 1/2 tablespoons of raisins. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl (bread mix, powdered milk, sugar and salt). In another bowl, beat the eggs and butter (or oil) and add to the dry ingredients. Add the raisins and pour into a buttered bread pan. Finally, cook it at 230 ° C for 20–25 minutes.
Cheese Muffins
This is another easy and tasty recipe that will please everyone, including the gluten-free aficionados. The ingredients you’ll need for this are 1 kg of gluten-free bread mix, 0.600 kg of milk, 0.400 kg of grated cheese, 0.100 kg of eggs (or 2 large ones), 0.100 kg of vegetable oil and 0.010 kg of salt. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl at high speed for 3 minutes using a flat beater. Pour the mixture into greased muffin tins. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes and then bake at 225 ° C for 15 minutes.
